Week Class

Ahmad
Austin will be sharing his tips and techniques for creating
vibrant palette knife paintings. Using a palette knife allows
artists to create a variety of interesting edges, textures,
and layers. Ahmad will teach students to create sweeping
areas of color or delicate details using a variety of palette
knife shapes. Painting with a palette knife will force you
to loosen up and approach the canvas with a more painterly
style making this a great class for novice or advanced painters!

Drawing
is a primary building block for painters. Learn how to see
in a way that helps you translate the 3 dimensional world
to the 2 dimensional plane of your canvas. An artist has
a different viewing experience than a causal observer. Terry
will help you discover those differences and teach you to
tap into your artist’s eye with centuries old classical
drawing techniques. This class is for all skill levels and
anyone wishing to improve their drawing skills and their
paintings.

course is designed to help students who are planning
to audition for the Visual Arts program at the Alabama
School of Fine Arts. A.S.F.A offers students, grades
7-12, a "unique opportunity to explore the
frontiers of their own talents". ASFA visual
arts students engage in advanced studio work in
painting, sculpture and drawing. This
class will help your child developa
strong personalized portfolio and give him or her
an understanding of art techniques and terms.

Terry Strickland leads you through this “back
to basics” class, designed for all skill levels
and appropriate for any student searching for the
know-how to paint in a realistic manner.
Working
from a still life, you will explore color theory
and paint mixing, while learning the tried &
true skills necessary

render three-dimensional forms
and capture light with oil paint.
Terry is a contemporary figurative painter whose award
winning and highly collected work has been featured
in The Artist Magazine and the International Artist
Magazine. She has previously taught art at Birmingham
Museum of Art and Brevard Community College in Florida.

8 Group: Live Model Figure Drawing
|

This
figure drawing group is open to all serious artists from
beginner to advanced. The first Tuesday of each month is
costume night and the model is clothed. The remainingTuesdays
of each month the models are nude and will rotate between
male and female. Everyone is welcome to come to the costume
night but no one under the age of 18 may attend on the evenings
that the models are nude.
